Morrill Fixed a Flooding Problem

Project details:

  • Funding: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) + local match
  • Grant amount: $435,000
  • Total project cost: ~$886,000
  • Location: Morrill, NE

The Village of Morrill had long-standing drainage problems. During heavy rainfall, streets, neighborhoods, and public infrastructure all took the hit.

PADD helped the Village secure a Community Development Block Grant through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development to address it. The project installed nearly 2,935 linear feet of new storm drain piping along Railroad Street, plus new headwalls, inlets, manholes, and junction boxes to move stormwater where it needs to go.

Portions of Railroad Street were repaved and restored after construction, improving safety and reliability for residents. The nearly $886,000 project was funded through a $435,000 CDBG award and local matching funds from the Village.

It’s a good example of what happens when a rural community identifies a problem and works with the right partners to secure the funding and get it done.
