Alliance Is Expanding Childcare So Parents Can Work

Project details:

  • Funding: Community Development Block Grant (HUD/CDBG)
  • Grant amount: $375,425
  • Location: Alliance, NE

When the pandemic hit, Alliance already had a childcare problem. COVID made it worse. Parents couldn’t find spots for their kids, which meant they couldn’t work, and local employers were feeling the impact.

The Church of the Holy Rosary saw an opportunity. A residential care facility for retired religious sisters had recently closed, and the building was sitting empty. With the right funding, it could become a childcare center.

PADD helped the City of Alliance secure a $375,425 Community Development Block Grant to purchase the building and get it ready for kids. The renovation wasn’t massive, but it was necessary. They installed child-sized toilets, a new range for the kitchen, updated appliances, and the kind of practical improvements that turn a retirement care facility into a place built for children.

The project directly expands childcare capacity in Alliance, with a focus on serving low to moderate-income families. More spots for kids means more parents who can get to work, and a community that’s better equipped to grow.
